- More security – a smart lock will notify you if your door has been left unlocked or if someone has entered the premises
- No more making copies of keys
- You can instantly change the code upon tenant move-out so there is no risk of unlawful re-entry
If you rent your property out for weekends, or one-and-two week stays, you don’t want to be changing the lock after each guest! Many people who list their property on websites like AirBnB opt for non-traditional keyless door locks. These increasingly popular locks can only be opened by someone who has the correct access code.
Properties that have one or two main access points are also good fits for a smart lock. They can also be a big attraction for renters due to the convenience and increased security. The biggest disadvantage of smart locks is that they are more expensive.
Traditional Deadbolts
Traditional deadbolts are a very common type of lock. Mainly because they are some of the most secure locks that you will ever come across. There are two types of deadbolts: single cylinder deadbolt and the double cylinder deadbolt. The difference between the two is that the single cylinder has a keyed cylinder on one side of the door, while the double cylinder type has a keyed cylinder on both sides of the door.

Mortise Locks

A mortise lock is fitted inside the edge of the door, where the mortise lock cylinder is inserted into a hollow in the door’s edge. A strike plate functions as the lining for a recess in the frame into which the bolt fits. Mortise locks are perfect for buildings that have very heavy foot traffic. These locks are often found in older buildings before the advent of bored cylindrical locks, but have been making a comeback in upmarket properties or properties where there are many renters, as it can stand up to constant use.
