On the Move: The Case for Mobile Property Management

Mobile seems to be everywhere these days. From phones to tablets to laptops, people around the world are embracing the mobile movement for its convenience, accessibility and flexibility.

But there is one place that hasn’t kept pace with the mobile revolution. Ironically, it’s an environment in which people stand to benefit the most from mobility: The workplace.

According to a recent report Engagement and the Global Workforce, the majority of workers are still tied to landlines and desktops. And it’s taking a heavy toll on employee engagement.

As part of this study, a leading office design firm, Steelcase, joined forces with global research firm Ipsos, surveying nearly 12,500 workers across 17 countries. One third of respondents reported being disengaged on the job, a finding that is due in no small part to feeling landlocked. Steelcase reports that employees who have greater mobility and more control over where and how they work are much more engaged. What’s more, 88% of highly engaged workers report being able to choose where they want to work.

So what does this mean for property management firms?

Setting Property Management Workers Free

Property management isn’t immune to the effects of “chained to the desk” syndrome. Many operations personnel feel disempowered by their inability to get out and do their work in the space that suits them best – not to mention in a place that properly serves current and potential renters.

As the Steelcase report makes clear, worker autonomy is essential to worker satisfaction. In this day and age, one of the best ways to deliver that sense of control and independence is to provide a mobile workstation – one that includes a laptop, cell phone or other mobile device.

By offering mobile-friendly website applications, your property management staff can connect with work on the go, whenever they need to and from wherever their jobs take them. You can empower leasing agents to spend more time onsite, help maintenance staff work “in the field” more effectively and enable property managers to work from anywhere. Whichever way you look at it, that approach creates a win-win scenario for employees and customers alike.

If you’re looking to boost employee engagement while offering improved customer service to your residents and prospective tenants, we can help. To learn more about what our mobile applications can do for your property management firm, sign up for your free account today or give us a call.
